The collection of old postcards depicting school scenes is one of the few collections on this theme in Slovenia. Among them are some very valuable pieces that are highly sought after on the philatelic market, particularly lithographs depicting school scenes in Ljubljana and Kranj. The oldest postcard in the collection dates from 1897; it is a color lithograph depicting a view of Novo Mesto. Most of the postcards are from the Austro-Hungarian period and the interwar years. Through these old postcards depicting school scenes, we discover historic school buildings that no longer exist or have been rebuilt and altered; some now serve different purposes. Often, the school scene on an old postcard is the only visual record of a particular school.
The collection was assembled over the past twenty years and comprises 873 postcards with school themes.
