Slovenski šolski muzej

Dear teachers,

Education is always at the centre of attention as it helps to build the foundations of our society. It is you, dear teachers and educators, who play the greatest role in this by empowering every pupil through your work and by planning visits to cultural institutions.

At the Slovenian School Museum, we want to be part of an inclusive and quality education together with you, supporting the development of the child on the path to becoming an inquisitive and reflective person.

We have prepared an interesting and varied programme for pre-school and school groups throughout the school year 2024/25. Please take a look at our programme below and the detailed programme in the Teaching Programmes brochure. Please contact us for further information and to book a term.

Suggestions for choosing a programme

We recommend a two-hour visit to the museum, combining a guided tour of the permanent exhibition with a lesson or creative workshop. For younger visitors (pre-school children,  Years 1 and 2 of primary school), we recommend the Historical School for the Youngest, combined with a creative workshop and a short tour of the exhibition. For pupils who like to be active, we have developed the Museum Moveathlon workshop, and for young explorers we have developed the Know Your School’s History of and Explore Museum Objects workshops.

Older pupils (Years 8 and 9 of primary school, secondary school, students) can take part in a slightly more challenging lesson, Vodnik’s School. The most popular lessons, Handwriting, Sunday School, and Good Manners, are suitable for almost all ages.

OUR PROGRAMMES

School Rules! exhibition

The interactive exhibition School Rules! Education in Slovenia through time encourages curiosity and independent exploration. Visitors are invited to discover the history of education from prehistoric times to the present day. The central element of the exhibition is a long blackboard. But this is no ordinary blackboard; like a magic cupboard, it contains flaps, doors, and drawers that lead to a wealth of information. The exhibition is also enhanced by modern technology – the illustrated characters come to life with the help of a mobile app. For more information, please visit https://solskimuzej.si/en/razstava/school-rules/

We recommend guided tours of the exhibition, tailored to the children’s age group.

Historical lesson

The lessons could be described as mini-theatrical performances, in which museum visitors take on the role of pupils and, together with a Miss or Mister Teacher, act out a lesson from a particular historical period. The participants experience the lesson on stage – in an old classroom, in an authentic setting. Sitting at an old school desk in front of a Miss or Mister Teacher speaking in a stern voice is a truly special experience. The teachers, dressed in the fashion of a bygone era and with the obligatory cane in hand, conjure up the atmosphere of the school of yesteryear. The aim of the lessons is to evoke an emotional experience and to deepen the understanding of a particular historical period.

We offer 14 different lessons. For a detailed description of the lessons, please visit https://solskimuzej.si/en/lessons/
