Successful conclusion of the teachers’ seminar – School, Museum and Experiential Learning

On Thursday, 7, and Friday, 8 March 2024, the Slovenian School Museum held a seminar for teachers entitled School, Museum and Experiential Learning as part of the Katis programme.

During the seminar, the teachers, with the help of museum staff, explored the relationship between schools and museums and looked at the history of education. They gained insight into the work of museum guides, how they prepare for a guided tour of the interactive permanent exhibition School Rules!, and how they present information to children of different age groups. The curators of the Slovenian School Museum presented the history of education through the subject ‘From Gymnastics to Sport,’ through celebrations and through reading materials. The museum’s educational programmes and possibilities for cooperation were also presented. Two primary school teachers presented examples of good practice on how to prepare pupils well for a visit to the museum and how to link curriculum topics with the resources offered by the museum. At the end of the seminar, all the knowledge gained was actualised and reinforced in a group workshop exploring our library materials. In order to intensify the experience of the visit to the Slovenian School Museum, the teachers took part in a lesson from the old days at the Vodnik School.

By organising seminars in the Slovenian School Museum, we aim to offer teachers a space for meeting, socialising, and dialogue. We strive to become an open and creative information point for the study of the history of schools, from which we can work together to meet the challenges of the future.
