We participated in the round table The Sustainable, Accessible and Integrating Museum at the Cultural Bazaar

The Slovenian School Museum participated in the Cultural Bazaar, which took place on 20 March 2024 in Cankarjev Dom. At the round table ‘The Sustainable, Accessible and Integrating Museum’, Mateja Pušnik, Cultural Programme Coordinator at the Slovenian School Museum, shared her experiences and thoughts with the visitors.

Aimed primarily at educators and teachers, the round table was divided into four smaller groups, in which museum workers and educators discussed different categories of topics. The event provided answers to questions about the importance of museum institutions based on practices of museum education, such as learning about museum stories, developing programmes in line with the curriculum, and directed and guided exploration of the museum. Special attention was given to preparing pupils for a museum visit and explaining the museum rules of behaviour in an innovative way. The question of what kind of pupil is the perfect visitor was raised. The discussion also touched on the establishment of partnerships between the museum and the school, in particular, to stimulate young visitors’ interest in exploring cultural heritage and to raise their awareness of the importance of cultural heritage through visits to cultural institutions. There was general agreement that a visit to a museum must have a lasting effect. Only then will the visitor want to return to the institution, acquire lasting knowledge and develop a positive attitude towards heritage.
The event was a good opportunity to network, exchange views and share experiences.
