Visiting exhibition School is the first thing they need! on display at the Velenje Library
At the Slovenian School Museum, we strive to make the contents of the museum accessible to everyone, including those with hearing or visual impairments. The exhibition “School is the first thing they need!”, with which we are touring around Slovenia, shows that education for the deaf has taken place in the past.
The presentation of the exhibition School is the first thing they need! will take place on 14 October 2024 at 6 pm in the Velenje Library. The co-author of the exhibition, Klara Marija Keršič, will give a detailed presentation on the history of deaf education in Slovenia. The event will be moderated by Gregor Gartner.
The exhibition will be on display until 30 October 2024.
About the exhibition School is the first thing they need!
With the renovation of its premises, the reallocation of positions and a new permanent exhibition, the Museum has entered a new era in its efforts to make its content as accessible as possible. With the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of education for the deaf and hard of hearing, a small exhibition School is the first thing they need was created in 2022 as an accompanying programme to the 11th Deaf History International conference, which took place in Ljubljana and Zagreb from 7 to 13 August 2022. Curated by Polona Koželj and Klara Marija Keršič, the exhibition presents the history of deaf education in Slovenia.
