Teaching programmes in the year 2026/27

Teaching programmes and exhibitions at the Slovenian School Museum often revolve around punishments and rewards, which is an interesting topic that sparks visitors’ imaginations and raises questions about educational methods.

This time, we were the ones who earned recognition and were entered into the “golden book.”

On International Museum Day on 18 May 2026, we received a significant honour: the Slovenian Museum of the Year Award at the Valvasor Awards ceremony in recognition of our outstanding achievements in the field of museology. We are honoured that the Committee working under the Slovenian Museum Association has recognised our long-standing committed work in areas that significantly help shape our wider cultural space. Those of you who follow our work know that since 2022, the museum has undergone a major renovation in terms of both content and space. The recognition we have received takes into account all of the museum’s main activities: curatorial, educational, research, and teacher training work. The permanent exhibition “School Rules! Education in Slovenia Through Time” forms the starting point and core of the museum’s activities, and we develop various activities and projects in relation to it.

Teachers and educators who collaborate with us in one way or another, have always been an integral part of our activities. We would therefore like to thank you sincerely for helping to shape the Slovenian School Museum and would like to invite you to join us again in the coming school year.

For the sixth year in a row, we invite you to teacher training as part of the KATIS system. In the upcoming school year, in March 2027, we will organise two training sessions: “How to Write a School Chronicle Today?” and “Reading Literacy: A Teacher’s Challenge and Goal”.

Contents of the “Teaching programmes 2026/27″ booklet:

• The main section of the booklet presents the teaching programmes offered by the Slovenian School Museum, which are organised into the following categories: Lessons, Guided tours, Workshops, and Additional activities, as described below.
• Since we have recently been focusing particularly closely on accessibility and have developed new programmes for vulnerable groups in collaboration with the Sožitje Association, more attention is devoted to them this time (pp. 62–64).
• We are improving access to cultural programmes for smaller and remote schools by taking our programmes on tour to various parts of Slovenia. These workshops and lessons are designed to reach out to schools that have difficulty visiting our museum due to transportation issues.
• We are announcing a new travelling exhibition on lace-making education in the Slovenian territory from its beginnings to the present day, which can also visit your school (p. 72).

We believe that there is something for everyone among the content on offer.
