Teacher Training – How to write a school chronicle today?

At the teacher training session on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, entitled “How to Write a School Chronicle Today?”, we explored the writing of school chronicles in the past and today with participants and lecturers. Writing a school chronicle involves systematically recording the most significant events and the evolution of the school over time. As an official document, a chronicle must therefore be accurate, transparent, and objective.

Participants learned about the development, purpose, and significance of chronicles throughout history, familiarised themselves with the history of guidelines for writing school chronicles, and also browsed through some unique examples. They reviewed past guidelines for writing school chronicles, exchanged experiences of writing school chronicles today, and received practical advice and recommendations for writing. They also viewed important documents related to the recording of events at the Historical Archives of Ljubljana.

As school chronicles provide insight into the happenings at a particular school, including celebrations and commemorations, the participants listened to a lecture on school celebrations in the past, learned about best practice examples, and concluded by sharing their thoughts in a discussion.

This training course was aimed at teaching staff whose work involves writing school chronicles, preparing school anniversary books and organising school events to mark school and national holidays.

We thank all participants for their attendance, positive attitude, and interest in writing school chronicles.

By organising seminars, the Slovenian School Museum aims to provide teachers with a space for meeting, socialising and dialogue. We strive to become a networking hub and an open, creative information centre for studying the past of the school, from which we can find answers to the challenges of the future.
