Successful seminar for teachers – How to keep a school chronicle
On Thursday, 27 March 2025, the Slovenian School Museum, as part of the Katis programme, held a seminar for teachers entitled “How to keep a school chronicle”. The seminar was aimed at teaching staff whose work involves keeping school chronicles, preparing school anniversary books and organising school events on the occasion of school and national holidays.
During the seminar, the participants learned about the history of keeping school chronicles, which ran parallel to the development of education, compared practical examples of instructions for keeping school chronicles in the past and today, and exchanged experiences in writing the school chronicle. They also visited the Historical Archives Ljubljana.
They received some advice and recommendations on how to go about writing a school chronicle and how to handle chronicles from the past. They got an insight into some school chronicles and heard examples of good practice in organising school events. They also learned about how holidays were celebrated in schools in the past and how festivities have changed over the years. The event ended with an evaluation.
By organising seminars, the Slovenian School Museum aims to offer teachers a space for meeting, socialising and dialogue. We want to become a hub for networking, an open and creative information centre for studying the school past, from which we all seek answers to the challenges of the future.
