Museums on a summer night at the Slovenian school museum
The Museums on a Summer Night event will be in full swing on 21 June 2025 from 6 pm to midnight. We invite you to attend a variety of free programmes at the Slovenian School Museum.
INDIVIDUAL VISITS TO EXHIBITIONS:
Permanent exhibition: School Rules!
This interactive exhibition uses museum objects, documents, models, and ambient installations to take visitors through interesting facts from the history of education, from prehistory to the present day. The exhibition’s central feature is a large, long school blackboard, with a long school bench opposite it. However, this is no ordinary school blackboard; like a magic cabinet, it opens to reveal flaps and drawers containing a wealth of information and enticing stories.

Exhibition: Collecting, Researching, Reviving: Sports Heritage and the Sports Museum
The exhibition shows the evolution of various sports, including gymnastics, cycling, athletics, water sports, skating, skiing, mountaineering and climbing, and ball games. Museum objects and materials present the activities of the Sports Museum to date, thus showing the breadth of Slovenia’s rich sports heritage in a concise way.
Travelling exhibition: Matura as a Magic Wand: 30 Years of the Reintroduction of the Matura Exam in Slovenia
The exhibition highlights 30 years of the reintroduction of the Matura exam in Slovenia – exploring its origins, challenges and dilemmas, as well as its development and successes that have shaped its meaning and role in the education system. Created by Marjetka Balkovec Debevec and Mateja Ribarič, the exhibition was officially opened in Brdo pri Kranju in 2025 and will travel to various Slovenian secondary schools throughout the year.

LESSONS
There’s nothing quite like sitting behind an old school desk in front of a stern-voiced Miss
or Mr Teacher. Dressed in period costume and carrying the traditional cane, they recreate the atmosphere of a bygone era. During historical lessons, visitors can experience old teaching methods and gain learning content from the past.

18:00 – Handwriting lesson
18:30 – Gym lesson (in the atrium)
19:30 – Good manners lesson
20:00 – Ancient Emona (in the atrium)
21:00 – Hygiene lesson
22:30 – Vodnik’s School lesson
Sports Quiz with the Sports Museum
Participants learn about Slovenian sports heritage in a fun and interactive way – through a game and a quiz. They exercise their grey cells and explore the achievements of Slovenian top athletes, discover where their ancestors once swam, and learn about the fan paraphernalia that has accompanied sporting events through the decades. They learn about the sports that make up the all-around, and think about how technological developments affect sports equipment and the game itself.

You are invited to spend the summer night with us!
