PROGRAMME – LESSONS

9.15-10.15 Sunday School Lesson
In Sunday School, you will learn to write, read, and do arithmetic, and you will be taught about manners, order, and discipline. From the beginning of the 19th century, introductory and revision Sunday School classes were held on Sundays and holidays, as many village children were unable to attend classes during the week due to their preoccupation with other work and their distance from school. Blaže and Nežica in Sunday School by Anton Martin Slomšek was an important textbook from this period.

10.30-11.30 Handwriting Lesson
In the Handwriting Llesson, you will learn about the importance and role of clear handwriting, and you will acquire the basics of this skill by writing letters with pen and ink. The handwriting exercises will, of course, take place under the watchful eye of Miss Teacher.

12.00-13.00 Good Manners Lesson
In the Good Manners lesson, you will learn about the rules pupils had to follow at school and in everyday life. You will get to know the School Rules from 1907 and learn about their significance.

13.30-14.30 Natural History Lesson: domestic cat
In this lesson, you will learn about the physical attributes and character of a domestic cat. With the help of Miss Teacher, you will use cat-related proverbs to discover which character traits are common to both people and cats.

15.00-16.00 Physics
Various physical laws also determine how we live our lives. The teaching of basic science was laid down in the 1869 Primary Education Act, and it is still useful to learn it today. Physics experiments with old teaching aids are particularly attractive in this context.

16.30-17.30 Vodnik’s school
As the Illyrian Provinces were established in 1809, the French promoted the knowledge of the French language but allowed the provincial (Slovenian) language to be used as the language of instruction in primary and lower secondary schools. Valentin Vodnik wrote the first purely Slovenian textbooks for classes in Slovenian. The content of these books is also taught to the participants of the Vodnik’s School lesson. They are thus given a unique opportunity to learn the basics of Bohoričica, which was used as the Slovenian script from the mid-16th to the mid-19th century.

Miomira Šegina will present the technique of preparing and telling stories through kamishibai, which is suitable for various ages and occasions and can also be used therapeutically.
