Invitation to a lecture: Ways in which schools and local communities can collaborate to preserve the local oral tradition

We invite you to a lecture entitled ‘Ways in which schools and local communities can collaborate to preserve local oral tradition’, to be delivered by the renowned research fellow, Dr Barbara Ivančič Kutin, from the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 6.00 pm in the library of the Slovenian School Museum.

This is a specialist event, specifically designed for primary school teachers, Slovenian language teachers and students of education and the humanities.

At a time when we are facing the challenge of declining motivation to read, local oral tradition (folktales, dialectal expressions, local legends) represents an invaluable resource for improving reading literacy. As pupils explore the language of their own environment, their interest in texts grows naturally, thereby strengthening both functional literacy and linguistic self-confidence.
