At the international conference Schools/Kindergartens & Museums/Galleries, we presented our use of digital content in the museum
From 26 to 28 March 2026, Postojna hosted the 9th International Conference Schools/Kindergartens & Museums/Galleries, traditionally organised by the Educa Izobrazevanje institute in cooperation with renowned institutions from Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. The title of this year’s conference was ‘Schools and Museums between Authenticity and Digital Participation’.
The conference aimed to reflect on the two worlds between which contemporary museums and schools are suspended: one being the original or the object, which carries the weight of time, history and authentic contact with our cultural heritage and the other being the screen, which is a window to a world of digital interpretation, multimedia stories, virtual pathways and global audiences.
The Slovenian School Museum was represented at the conference by two representatives.
Mateja Pušnik presented a poster showcasing the augmented reality technology used in our permanent exhibition and promotional materials, featuring entertaining animations and intriguing facts from the history of education.
Gregor Gartner presented a paper entitled ‘Click or Chalk? Experiential Learning in the Slovenian School Museum in the Age of Digitisation’. In it, he discussed digital content and the experiential education workshops offered by our museum. The former primarily informs and educates the public, while the latter deepens the knowledge and exploration of cultural heritage through original artefacts and their replicas.
During the three-day conference, six plenary lectures and a multitude of participant presentations were held in four thematic sections across three locations: the Notranjska Museum Postojna, the ZRC SAZU Karst Research Institute and the Postojna Cultural Centre. An online proceedings volume featuring academic papers by the plenary speakers and other active participants who presented at the conference will be published as part of the conference.
